Written In The Stars

When I stepped into the role of Design Chief in Fall 2023, my first project was leading Written in the Stars, the Marquette Journal’s semesterly magazine. Partnering with the managing editor, I shaped the creative concept around themes of identity and storytelling, expressed through a celestial-inspired design system.

I established the typography, color palette, and layout structure, then led a team of three designers in executing the 60+ page publication. My leadership approach blended mentorship and critique—I made sure each designer’s strengths shone while maintaining a cohesive visual voice.

Impact: The final issue reached ~1,500 readers in print and extended digitally, reinforcing the Journal’s reputation for high-quality student journalism and giving my team the confidence to push design boundaries.
